Hi guys. I am installing a new 009 distributor with electronic points into my '66. Does anyone know how you go about setting the timing pse? Is it the using the conventional static method, or is it by using a timing light? Many thanks, Richard

Many thanks for the feedback. For information in the past 24 hours I found reference to installing a gauge in the Haynes Volkswagen Beetle Owners Handbook and Serviceing Guide by A K Legg. This book deals with UK models 1954 to 1977. Will go ahead and install a gauge into my 1300. Richard

Vaccum Gauge

Being old school I have always fitted a vaccum gauge to my cars. Before fitting one to my Beetle I am checking in/wondering if anyone has any thoughts or experiences using a vaccum gauge in a bug. I dont think there should be a problem, but having never owned a Beetle before I thought it best to gat...

Hi Milt. Welcome to the forum. My New Zealand 66 is the same as yours. The only reason that I can think of for not having a driver side arm rest is in case it hinders the driver's ability to steer; i.e. a safey risk. Cheers. Kiwi66

Hi. I see that you haven't yet had a reply. So I looked in my library and one VW book says that the car dimensions are L 4.064m, W 1.537m, H 1.499m. But please treat these measurements with caution as they may not be 100% for US vehicles. Hope this helps.Richard

Engine Backfires when coasting downhill

G'day guys. Can you help with some suggestions please? I tuned my 66 (with a 1500cc motor) today. Changed the plugs , set contact points gap using the dwell meter (50.5), adjusted the timing, adjusted fuel mix and adjusted idle. The old girl purrs along apart from one problem - it now backfires when...
