Wow, that's amazing what they do with the front axle beam! I wonder what it handles like?

What an amazing chronology! Nicely done and thank you for sharing the highs and lows of your restoration. I hope to come into the possession of a 66 red bug in a few months. It's a solid little car, but as you are showing me, looks can be deceiving! I can't wait to see the rest of your project! Ple...

Re: My first 1966 VW Beetle!!

Hi! My son and I just purchased a 1966 Beetle and have a lot of work ahead of us but we absloutely LOVE the little car!! :D I'm looking forward to hearing from other '66 Beetle owners and their experiences in restoring it! Hi Ridgerunners, Welcome. What's the condition of your car like? PS - When I...

Re: Stock sunroof

Does anyone have experience or have heard of anyone adding a stock sunroof to a bug. I had a sunroof in a 65 beetle I owned years ago and it was really cool. I just know that sunroofs can be tricky beasts with leaks etc. I suppose you could have the sunroof section of a donor car grafted onto your ...

Neat Video - Seat Restoration

Hi Everyone,

Found a cool video on youtube regarding VW seat restoration. It covers the subject of the rear bench seat back (which is mummified in my car) and shows what to replace it with.

What a rare book that one is! My friends and I found a whole stash of them in a used bookstore, still brand new! My favorite part is his high praise for the original split window Beetle with its 25hp engine. He said you could buy one for as little as $20! He shows disdain toward each incremental di...

Best wishes to you and for family. When you finally restart work on your car it will make a fitting truibute to your Dad's life and passions too. Alex. Thanks Alex, Couion and John, your words meant a lot to us. As for the Beetle I'm just now starting to stare at it out in my garage again here rece...

Hello VW friends. It is with great sadness that I report the passing of my father "VWmeisterbob" in December '08 after an eight month battle with cancer. It is largely due to his illness that I put my 1966 VW project on indefinite hold as I was needed for part of his caregiving, but I don'...

Sorry for no updates

Hi Volks! Sorry for not updating the post for so long but not much has been going on with the Beetle honestly since end of 2007. Shortly following my own hospital stay in March, my father fell ill in April with squamous cell carcinoma and his condition remains quite serious. He is the largest influe...

Hello, sorry to have been away so long. This past Sunday I attended my first VW show this season so now I'm all energized. I began to work on the door alignment of my Beetle but quickly tired of it for now. I really need to get on track and finish this in time to have the car painted this year. So a...

Oh by all means keep the sunshade! I also like the chrome eyebrows.

To me, owning a car in original condition is far superior to a restoration any day. Good job locating such a jewel.

Sounds like you have done everthing. I have a 30 PICT 2 on my bug and it has no provisions for an idle cutoff valve but if I am not mistaken this valve is only used to keep the engine from running on when the ignition is shut off. The only other thing that I can come up with is to check the shaft t...

Sounds like it could be a short to me. Are any of your fuses hard wired? Better check and make sure only fuses are in the fuse block ... no paperclips or bullets! Yikes!
