Sounds like it's time to pull the engine and visually inspect everything.

Pulling the shifter shouldn't cause grinding. If it's not correctly aligned you won't have all your gears (like you'd have 3 and 4 but not 1/2/reverse if the shifter alignment's off as an example), but that is a different type of problem. You replaced the throttle cable, but it's the same clutch cab...

You took the shifter off too? That could open up another can of worms by itself, but lets start with eliminating the grinding. You're definitely out of adjustment on the pedal if it's grinding. Wind the wing nut up a half turn at a time until the grinding stops, and see if you can get a gear. Once y...

So for the clutch, can you select gears when the car's off? When it's running, does it grind? Can you have a buddy work the clutch pedal while you watch the clutch arm to make sure it's actually moving when pressed? Can you actually feel tension on the pedal when you're pressing it? Doesn't drop rig...

vapor lock? How hot's it where you're at right now? Gurgling sounds like boiling fuel in the lines, I've heard that sound before. Brosol H30/31? Really though, if it's leaking fuel, you know the end of this story. Pull it and go through it. Make sure all the bushings are good, there's no slop or any...

In my experience, Wolfsurg West has the best sheet metal I've seen domestically, but their selection can be limited. There are several places in Europe that have stashes of OEM sheet metal, you can cruise The Samba and find them. Fair warning, this will be 3-4 times the price you'd pay from CIP1, bu...

Most cars have had one installed there, but never from the factory! This. Belonged to a car club for several years, at one point we had 60 cars in 2 chapters here in AZ. Had a big show up here in Phx and our Tucson family came up to hang with us. They brought 10 cars, 2 of them burned up on the sid...

Unfortunately it's all too common. Another really fun one is to hook the leads up backwards. There's an 80 dollar mistake for ya. Everyone I know who runs any kind of ignitor keeps a spare set of points and condensor in their car. ...Granted, all of us who run points do too, but that's beside the po...

If you decide to go this route, keep a spare set of points and a condenser in your spares kit in the car. Pertronix have this unpleasant habit of cooking off for no reason when you need them the most, and having a set of points handy will keep you from being stranded some place that could be a LONG ...

A grand in Florida for a more or less rust free project? You could certainly do a LOT worse. If the paint's in decent shape, a weekend with some oven cleaner will get the house paint off, some work go clear the surface scabs and get it running and you have another runner for a song. Is the engine lo...

Looking good. I like overriders, but Euro style blades are also a good choice. Wolfsburg West has very good reproduction bumpers that fit almost as if they were OEM. You can get cheaper ones several other places, but you get what you pay for. Another option is to find a set of OEM bumpers and have t...

It does have a bend to it. I tried to find a pic of one online but struck out. Wolfsburg west has one on their site that only goes up to '64 but it gives you a general idea of what they look like. With the Scat shifter in, did you have all gears? Can you manually work the gear change and feel it go ...

@fatalifeaten - That blue is awesome. I found that same picture and am considering it for my own. *Chuckle* Did you find it linked from somewhere else? I TOOK that picture :) I'm always amused at how far across the internet my photos go. Even snapshots like this one. Go to your painter and ask to l...
