Yes....your assumption is correct. The stamp indicated the month (March) and year (1966) of the bumper's manufacture ...not necessarily the month and year of the car model. For example, 1966 model cars were first put on the market in August, 1965. It would not be unusual for VW to stockpile bumpers ...

For future reference: I've fixed problems like this by cutting a matching width strip of pop-can aluminum and forming one or two layers over the stripped splines on the regulator post, rounding it over on the front edge a bit, then gently forcing (by hand or with a small rubber mallet) the window cr...

Nice looking bug!!! "Taxi" yellow wasn't an option for 66's (only available on later convertibles) ...so, what do you figure the original color was??

Curious about the location of the Emergency Flasher switch. It is 'usually' higher up on the dash ...just above where yours is located. I note that your car has the 'optional' (?) locking steering wheel, so perhaps on those cars so equipped, they put the flasher switch where the ignition switch woul...

Yes....thanks for that info. I have had it confirmed elsewhere that silver/gray is the correct colour for the 66 bumper mounting bits. L91 sounds like the correct shade. Also had it confirmed with this photo from a 1966 VW brochure.

Bumper parts colors

I've tried searching the forums for this info; I've reviewed photos of 'original' bugs;and I've checked with the online parts suppliers, but I can't seem to get a straight, consistent answer: what are the 'correct' colors for the bumper brackets and bumper support bars on a 66 Beetle? I've seen silve...

...or, you could the vinegar trick by standing the frame up again, and putting each socket in a container with enough vinegar in it to cover the threads ...and let it soak for a few days. Same difference ....

I thought this WAS the Technical / Mechanical section??? Idea: find a cork that will fit into the bolt holes. Cut the corks short, but not too short ...then plug the holes with corks. Using a syringe filled with vinegar, push the needle through one cork and fill the bolt hole with vinegar ...let it ...

Cip1 sells the EMPI brand electric fuel pumps for $28 to $50, depending in the application. I think you'll need a special relay as well.

Thanks for the note. No problem. I was just surprised that no one had anything to contribute. I figured it must be a fairly common practice (US buyers taking in cars from Canada) ...but, I guess not. And, for the inexperienced buyer, I guess the process that does exist is just too complicated or con...

Wow. I can't believe NO ONE has anything to contribute to this conversation!! Fortunately, I was able to (after a considerable wait, as well) get some input from members on the forum at TheSamba.com. For anyone who may be interested, here's a link to the US site where people in the USA can go for in...

Selling a car into the USA from Canada? Anyone done it?

Looking for some insight from any of my fellow Canadian members who may have sold a VW bug to a USA buyer, or from a USA buyer who bought from Canada. Curious about the process, paperwork, hassles, etc?

KKV270 ....I'm still skeptical, even with the clarified numbers. Not sure if you're using Imperial Gallons or the smaller US gallon conversion (but I'll guess that Kenya, being a former British colony, would convert litres to Imperial gallons, and vice-versa). So: 651 kms = 404 miles 34 litres = 7 I...

I don't have a 'modern' comparison, but back in the day (late 60's early 70's) I used to routinely get 34 mpg (Imperial gallon) on long highway trips with my low mileage 66 Beetle. That's the equivalent of 8.3 litres per 100km (the standard modern measurement) or 12 kilometres per litre (again compa...
