low back seats
seats for a 66 or 67 can be hard to find. earlier ones are somewhat similar and may suit your purposes. make sure, then, to order the corect year seat covers. The 66-67 seat covers fit poorly on earlier seat frames.

"clutch chatter"
I recently had to put a new clutch in my 66. It works fine except when you put it in to reverse, it "chatters" kind of like you are trying to lay rubber.

Chris: Airhead parts has a newly mfg. turn signal relay for about $50-60. I put one in mine and it worked great. Easy install. It comes with a diagram or use the one provided and look also at the wiring diagram on this website. I screwed around for hours with my old one until I finally bit the bulle...

on my 66, the parking lights come on with one click and then go out when the headlights are turned on (second click). Sounds like yours are working properly.

don't feel too bad. I've had my '73 for 35 years and still screwed up the firing order on my '66. I think the VW was God's way of keeping us humble. I have had issues on my '73 that even pro VW mechanics have never heard of.

You might also want to check the firing order of the spark plugs. I had this problem and had the same deal as you did. would idle ( one cylinder firing) but no power and backfiring when accelerated. you might have a couple of the wires switched. hard to believe it could ilde so smooth with only one ...

was a short, I believe. fried the wire from an apparently poor splice up to the headlight switch. replaced the whole wire with 14 awg wire and seems to work now. Will keep the battery disconnected until I can spend some time with it to make sure.
