John Muir's voice describing engine sounds

Hey I found this cool website that hosts audio clips of John Muir (author of How to Keep your Volkswagen Alive - A Manual of Step by Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot). It's neat to be able to connect the voice with the many times I've read the book. Please - click and enjoy ... he even ends wi...

I've also used color coded index tabs available in the office supplies aisle of discount stores.

Cheap yes, but fun.

Hi Folks! As a non-dub'er I'm sure you'll find the simplicity and straightforwardness of early VW engineering to be somewhat charming if not relaxing. Just think of mid 1930's American cars (only with aircooling) and you'll get into the correct mindset. As far as bodywork goes they're rusters, but t...

I like some of the VW transporter yellows that they used to offer. Sierra Yellow being a favorite. Also the Yukon Yellow is an eye catcher although it tends to attract insects (seriously). I do love the Sea Blue. Although I knew better, I bought a real rust bucket of a car partially because I love t...

Ah! Yes, how could I forget the "Halt" setting ... you're right. My locking column unit has been wrapped in paper and placed in a box for safekeeping until the final reassembly of my car. I am not looking forward to the re-installation of the new wiring harness and have kept the old harnes...

And here's the nicely done passenger side footwell. I like this bodyshop guy's welding technique. Neat...as opposed to the 'bubble-gum' look of my welds. He later ground this down and epoxy primed it as you see in the exterior shot. Note: I don't know what those two black dots are, they don't appear...

Here's a look at the brand new front bulkhead area (can you really call this a 'firewall' in a rear-engined car?) The old one looked like a rusted out wash board.

The rear bulkhead body mount was severely corroded. The entire piece had to be cut out and replaced. (Note: You must brace the body before attempting this operation or you may spring the doors and probably never get them aligned properly again!)

Here's the finished product.

And then the end result after replacement. Note: These brackets are more "universal" and typical of what's available on the market today but they're better than tetanus city and I think they'll do the job just fine.

Here's what it looked like before. Notice how flimsy looking the new bracket appears? That was taken care of.
