Re: finding/using jack stands for removing all four wheels

Hi. First I'm really new to doing these things, and I don't know the meaning or location of lots of terms or parts of my '66 Bug, ie., terms I've seen in posts. Basically, my bug's been sitting in my (open but covered) carport in the parking lot of my condo association for ages, and all four tires ...

You really

Should give the folks at sewfine interiors a call. They have carpet for beetles in lots of different colors. I've used them before for seat covers and wasn't disappointed, even after the premium I paid on price.

Re: new to Beetles, lots of questions.

Having a 6 volt starter in a 12 volt system is about as good as having a high torque starter from an autostick. However; it will eventually burn out, which bings you two or three options: 1 get a new 6 volt starter from oreilly (reman to be sure) and pray that they still stock it and will honor the...

Re: My '66 Sedan First Car Show

The picture is of my '66 in a recent and first ever car show. It was a little shy at first being the only VW in the show but she later on got over it. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i19/cutacroshorty/1966%20VW%20Beetle/DSCN0215_zps14f52649.jpg Looks good. Reminds me of when I was in high school ...

Re: new to Beetles, lots of questions.

I am a lifelong mechanic who's got a long list of experience, until it comes to VWs. I currently own a 2011 Jetta, a 2004 Passat, and bought a 66 last night (my dad would roll over in his grave, but I also own a 69 Chevelle). Here goes my questions/issues: VIN number is 116459419. Any can decode th...

I went out tonight to check it out. It does light up the immediate glass area a bit but I don't think it is all that distracting. It actually lights up the area under the rear window more. Here is a picture of it taken at night. It's very dark behind my car so I think the glare appears more distrac...

This. It takes some doing, but totally worth it.

This was the case

With mine when I first got it, but only on the drivers side. Since The passenger's side was working, I took that door panel off to learn what was the matter. Come to find out, in the top left corner of the drivers side, there is a bolt that holds the inner mechanism for the door opening and shutting...

Kyle, Thanks for the answer, man. I guess I wasn't as clear with my question as I thought, though. I'm not talking about how the starter fits into the bug. I'm talking about the starter itself. Before I installed it, I was trying to mount a hard start relay to one of the bolts that holds the starte...

I'm not an expert on this, but I believe 30 or 31 inches (I forget which) is considered the best length for FM reception. Longer is better for AM reception but that is not the case with FM. It has something to do with the length of the signal wave that FM uses. When you get your new antenna install...

It looks as though I get to mount a new antenna after all. This morning while returning home from breakfast the mast of the antenna fell out of the base mount. I guess I'll be looking for a replacement antenna now. It's possible that a new stock antenna may just cure your ills, if so, that's great....

Re: FM Radio Antenna Booster

I live in an area where most FM radio reception is very poor. The Blaupunkt FM radio in my Bug is a quality radio but even with the best conditions the FM signals are fair to poor to say the least. I was wonder if anyone has had any experience with a 12 volt FM antenna booster? What about replacing...

Re: 6v starter body bolts stripped?

Hey all, So I'm trying to replace a worn 6v starter on my '66 while also installing a hard start relay. I tried to install it as per Muir (by grounding it to one of the body bolts for the starter) but when I try to reinstall the starter bolt it seems to be stripping out inside the starter. What hav...

Re: 1966 Beetle Driver Seat Backrest Adjustment & Releas

I have issues with my passenger side's reclining mechanism, like something is broke. I've not attempted the repair but have been scouring the Internet for replacement seats. However, I can vouch that the mechanisms were painted at the factory to match the interior color. Hence, mine are some sort o...

Re: 1966 Beetle Driver Seat Backrest Adjustment & Releas

On a 1966 Sedan, the outer part of the adjustment on the driver’s seat has a thumb lever used to adjust the backrest position. It looks like the thumb lever part is attached to a tube or rod that runs the full width of the backset to the other side of the seat. The thumb lever appears to be bent bu...
