On one of my cars they drilled a hole through the bulkhead and ran it along the right side of the tunnel, opposite side of the brake line. It's held on with rubber line clamps and screws, like darzoom describes.

I did it on my '61. It was switched to 12 volt, and the regulator was on the firewall, which I didn't like. It was a simple matter of rewiring. In my case, I put the regulator on the right side, next to the battery. That way I didn't have to drill any holes (other than the two to mount the regulator...

It will work if you can cut that oblong hole in the body of your car and get it right.

First you'll have to look at the nosecone of your transmission to see if it has a backup light switch. They didn't become standard (in North America) unrtil 1967.

You folks need to stop worrying about spending an extra $40 and think about rusting your floorpans with battery acid. An Optima pays for itself in long life to begin with. I have a 6-volt Optima going on nearly a decade old and still works great. And they won't rust the floor.

You can buy a little pack of the block-offs at any auto parts store. Normally a pack has a few different sizes and colors. I call them squirrel or gerbil condoms, depending on the size.

You need to look at the distributor to make sure the rotor is pointing toward No. 1 plug wire or you can be 180 degrees off. However, it sounds like you did it right. So are you saying the engine wouldn't start when it was hot? Did it start okay again when it was cold? When it was hot, did you try s...

You can do the front end adjustment easily yourself, but I've found in my experience that even fully raised the front still sits low.

That's excessively wide for the stock wheels. Remember. '66 doesn't have a safety bead.

All you can really do with the transmission out of the car is turn the axles back and forth against each other to look for excessive wear in the ring and pinion. You can also drain the gear oil to see if it's clear, or if it is a mess of metal shavings. As to whether the tranny is any good, it's bas...

A 34 PICT carb means you must have a dual-port 1600. You need to post some pictures sometime. I would love to see pictures of you and your car. At any rate (and since I ignore other people's directions) you adjust the carburetor by first warming up the engine until the choke is off. (butterfly on lo...

Congratulations for wanting to raise you VW to stock height. The rear end was probably lowered by adjusting the springplate down one or more notches at the outside of the torsion bars. This is not hard to reverse. The front end may take more work, because normally the front ends are heavily modified...

Sometimes you can jam the transmission in two gears, and you can remove the transmission nosecone and move the shift forks around to unjam them.

Forget rebuilding the transmission yourself. It takes numerous special tools and you must be an experienced rebuilder who is in practice.
