Re: Just got a 66, Now I get to overhaul the engine

In addition to my Muir book, any other good reading recommendations for engine overhaul? The "Wilson" book is the bible for VW air-cooled rebuilding. It will tell you everything you need to know. http://www.amazon.com/Rebuild-Volkswagen-air-Cooled-Engine-models/dp/0895862255/ref=sr_1_1?ie...

When you pull the rear seat forward and lay it flat, you should see a metal strip at the base of the seat back. It is attached by screws. The carpet is two pieces held together by that strip. Once the carpet is free, you can remove the seat back at the hinge points.

OK, that's what I thought. One other question, so does a bad main seal result in leaking tranny oil or engine oil? The seal or plugs would be engine oil. The transmission has it's own seal. Any risk in me running it for a while if I keep the oil topped up until I get to this project? That depends o...

Re: Main Seal Leak?

There's alot of oil coming out of there when the the car is running. I would assume that the main seal is the source of your leak. As the engine builds oil pressure while it's running, it would flow from a blown seal. I think it's time to pull the engine. It's not hard to do with a friend. It'll al...

It sits on its side under the rear seat. Shop around for the best price. Here's a good deal on Amazon. http://www.amazo...

I haven't used a lead additive either. I do add Marvel Mystery Oil during each fill up for top end lubrication.

Re: Is there an oil filter? 6 volt voltage regulator adjusta

is a there an oil filter used on the 66 VW bug? There appears to be reference to a filter screen... Also, the lights, particularly the rear signal lights are very dim. Dimmer than the brake lights. I checked that they are the correct wattage and voltage rating and cleaned the bulb base/contact. No ...

Carburetor Rebuild

Just had my Solex 30 PICT-1 rebuilt by Tim at Volkbitz. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. He completely cleaned it, re-plated the metal bits, and re-bushed it. I also had him replace the barb for the fuel line. From start to finish, it was about two weeks door to door. Here's his website.... h...
