Did you ever get this worked out??? If not, you might have a clogged heat riser tube. This will cause the gasoline going to the cylinders to make the intake ice up.

My 1966 did this until I fixed the oil leaks from the engine and transmission. Oil would get on the clutch and cause a terrible slamming sound until I got it going. I remedied the problem with: New main engine seal New Transmission seal New clutch New pressure plate New flywheel New Throw out Bearin...

No Mechanics???

Well, since I posted this, I have not heard about any VW Mechanics in South Eastern Indiana. Here is what I've learned since my post. 1. Working on VW's isn't as hard as I thought. 2. Big O Tires in Madison Indiana Doesn't have a VW Wide 5 adapter. 3. German engineering is quite incredible. 4. Takin...

Air Cleaner

Pat, Yes, the oil is coming from the bottom of the air cleaner. It's probably rusted out at the bottom. I put a K&N filter on it in the mean time until I can get it fixed.

Cracks in the paint

Was driving my 66 beetle yesterday with my family and afterwards, when I got home I noticed that there were cracks in the paint where the hood and window posts meet. I'm a little worried that there may be something going terribly wrong. Does anyone know what could cause this?

Oil bath air cleaner

The '66 air cleaner will work just fine on a 1600, plus it's the biggest one that will fit under the decklid without rubbing. Ok, let me ask you this, after running the engine at highway speeds, I notice that the oil is no longer clear, but appears to be full of air. Is this normal? This is what I ...

Check your local swap meets and car shows as well.
What is WW?

Leaky Oil Bath

Just thought of something else. I'm not the original owner of my 66, but the guy that I bought it from said the guy he bought it from changed out the engine to a 1600cc. The engine number is AE. I suspect that they used the 66' oil bath air cleaner on the 1600cc engine. I am just wondering if the cr...

Oil Bath Air Cleaner

Has anyone ever run into this problem with their Oil Bath Air Cleaners? Mine is leaking all over the carburator. It's not too full. I think that it is rusted near the neck. Is this common? Where can you get a replacement?

Hello from Indiana

Just wanted to drop a quick note to say hello to all the other 1966 Bug enthusiasts. I just bought a 66' last week and have been pouring over it with a fine tooth comb ever since. It's a beautiful vehicle and I'm sure I'll get hours of enjoyment out of it. :D
