The story of my 1966 ... so far

The local Internet motoring magazine was kind enough to publish my '66 story:

And apologies ...

I misread the table on Samba. The listed Nos are THE LAST No of the month, not the first, therefore your engine should be August 65, and the body Feb 66

Thanks for the info. Another thing I was told is that the door handles on a late '66 are similar to the kind that are on the '67 model, so if theSamba's info is right, and mine is an early '66 model, why do I have the late '66, and '67 door handles on my bug? The door handles should have square pus...

Model year runs from the August of the previous calendar year to the August of the model year. Therefore, a 1966 was made from August 1965 to August 1966 If Samba is right, the pan/body were made in January 1966 (116 543 112 is less than 116 571 XXX, and February starts with 116 622 320) Your engine...

Long absence ...

Nothing new to report, the situation is still the same :) Some overhauls and general maintenance works are expected in the spring.

Wishing you all the best for the holidays and many more smiles in 2012!

66 had a flasher. The emergency flashers were only on cars exported to North America! Correct. The European models do not have the flasher, only after 67 (big black soft knobs on the dash). Mine had big black soft knobs when I bought it, and I did not revert to original - hey, preserve the history!

You don't have to replace the starter. I converted mine to 12V - all except the starter - and it works perfect, last 20 years or so ...

Hi to all!

Good morning all!

I am happy to introduce my 1966. It used to be sea sand, after the restoration in the winter 1998/1999 it tries to be British racing green :)

As I don't live in my home town and go there only for the summer, it awaits my yearly arrival ... and then we have fun for a month or so!
