As for Karls the shop is less thank 2 miles from my house, pretty hard to not end up in there once a week. And Ethan has been pretty cool, explaining stuff without being condenscending. I don't like being talked down to, some dub folk can get really snooty if they think you haven't changed a transax...

I picked up the rubber parts and installed them, but that didn't do the trick, so lo and behold I peek in the trunk and the spring is there! It wasn't engaged to the top member of the GB panel, so a quick twist and glove box works like a champ. Now I need to find someone to match the paint, GB and a...

Actually, I might just call Karl's Kustom and see if they have the rubber stops, that might fix my problem. Closing argument, they install from the front! I'm not pulling that glove box out unless I have to, now that I've got it the way I want it.

Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the heads up! I'll take a look in my box-o-parts for the spring, and hit Blairs & Sons if I don't have one.

Thanks again!

Glove Box Mechanism

So now that I've parked a stereo in my glove box I'm using it a lot more... but it doesn't work right. It seems like there should be a spring somewhere to push the panel open when I depress the glove box button. As it is now I have to kinda grab the side while I push the button and pull it open. So ...

My VW wails when she's cruising along at 75mph, but Robert Plant wails louder. Plenty of volume and good range all around. Horray I can park my MP3 player and stop using headphones!!!

So I got my emergency flashers working with a off the shelf pushbutton switch, by connecting ground to one side of the switch and the other side to "-S" on my flasher relay. Problem is, the turn signal light isn't flashing on my speedo. It works fine when I engage the turn signal arm, but ...

She's all 12v now, and Birdman I hear what you're saying about keyboard commando's... I have every intention of at least hooking this up for a listen before I drill mounting holes so either way I'm sure I'll be fine.

Thanks for the input!

Car Stereo on the Cheap

I don't have any question about installing speakers, but I would like to know what kind of wattage people are putting into thier bugs. Has anyone had any luck getting away with the power put out by a head unit, say 50 watts (17 true watts) per channel? I bought a Sony head unit which includes line l...

I installed the hood mercury switch last night, works great! As I gather momentum for wiring the stereo I'm going to pull a conductor for the deck lid switch as well.

I love it when a plan comes together!

I've got good movement in the cable, I'm going to have to check the adjustment on the back of the gauge. Too bad I didn't troubleshoot it better when I had the wiper assembly out, but I'll work around it. The good thing is it is accurate from 1/4 tank and lower, so I'm not too worried about it. I'll...

I feel your pain about the stereo, I've seen a few hack jobs in my time and it's never a good feeling to have your ride violated. You're taking this a lot better than I would! I don't know much, but I know for sure that I'm never taking my '66 to ANYONE unless they specialize in vintage VW's. Not Ji...

I'm going to follow suit and install one front and rear. Did you mount yours low and a steep degree or higher up at a slighter degree? I guess there aren't too many spots where we part on an incline in the valley, what degree should I set the plane? I'm digging on the brainstorming, it's sweet pulli...

Pardon my fung-shui attitude, but you've gotta feel it, man. I loved the '66 when I started looking for my first vintage Type 1, but something was a little off when i went and looked at them. Then I found mine, and it was like a goosebump moment, even seeing pictures online. I feel like these cars, ...

You picked a good time to look, the economy has dropped prices. In your Craigslist searches take a look Arizona way, you might see something worth the drive. Either way good luck and be well!
