Good luck with your 66. If you can post a picture. When you say will not start until cool. Can you answer these questions:

-do you hear the motor turning but will not start-
-nothing but stone dead-
-where is home-
-is this the original motor-

the next best thing to do is clean the grounding straps. Dont forget the grounding strap that is on the tranny. Make sure the blue box contacts are also sprayed down with the contact cleaner. rick the best place to start is to make sure all the connecting contacts are clean and not green in color. go to auto zone and buy two cans of electric contact cleaner. start spraying all the contacts. even the fuse box. place rags under what ever you are cleaning to soak up the waste -clean starter...

robm hi...the valve adjustment a nice project to do... when you adjust the rockers you must remember to put slight pressure on the push rod ends...the only other factors that come into play if the adjustment is not holding after the motor runs and cools off is bad bearings on the crank or cam shaft ...

rokemester happy 4th !!! yeah the vw brakes are so simple yet such a pita... most of the time when bleeding is an issue it is because the brake master cylinder is not german....you can also use the drip method which works very well....i have used the vac tool its alright still like the good old fash...
