Remounting Top Engine Bolts
I am trying to get the top engine bolts in to secure the engine of my to the frame. The clutch lever on the transmission is smack dab in front of the hole, and I can't pull it down far enough to get the bolt in. When I look at the VW manual, it shows a straight clutch lever, but mine is curves to th...

Where do you find Major Help?
Purchased '66 in need of restoration for a wedding gift to my wife. Personal journey of moving to a different house and a serious bout with cancer had left the project sitting for years. Now have body completely restored and some wiring done (not sure if I have a the correct harness version); would ...

Transmission jumping out of gear
The transmission pops out of 3rd gear while running. I purchased a "retaining ring, shift rod bushing" on the advice of a friend. Does this sound right and what's the best way to access the area that needs the fix?
I currently have the body off of the frame. Thanks much all!

Putting the Bug back together
OK, I am finally getting my body back from the shop in two weeks. It'll be all fixed up nice, painted and have the headliner installed. It has been several YEARS since it went in - long story, believe me. At any rate, I've rebuilt the brakes, put in new brake lines, new accellerator cable, new tie r...

Baggies
You are absolutely correct! I did, in fact, put thing in baggies but some of the magic marker is wearing off! I'd like to find a giant blow-up diagram of all of the parts in a VW to use as a guide to put things back together. Thanks for the post. It'll be a winter project and my goal is to have thin...

Hi George
Hey there George! I'm a newbie as well, and am glad to see an experienced mechanic is on line! Have you taken Type 1's apart and put them back together by chance? Mine is pretty stripped down right now, and I'm ready to put the body back on the chasis and put things back together. It's a pretty fund...

Greetings All! I'm a retired fire chief who drives a Harley (hence "HogChief1). I bought my wife a 66 VW Type 1 as a wedding present and told her I'd have it rebuilt by our 1st anniversary. Well, we just celebrated our 8th and the chasis is still in my garage and the body at the shop being rest...
