Shim

The shims are the large thin metal washers that go behind the bolt for the fan belt. You are brave replacing the generator by yourslef. Do you have a haynes manual?

?? flasher

hi There
I have 1966 beetle with no flasher relay. Were the flasher relays only fitted to the USA beetles in 1966? Mine is a european Spec model.

I also have the same dilema...... The emergency flashers are an important safety feature?

fuses

It might be as simple as a blown fuse!
the fuse box is to the right of the steering wheel under the dashboard. If there is a plastic cap over the fuse box, remove this and see if any of the fises are broken?

you can run the car on the conversion kit with the 6 volt starter etc. and not change the flywheel or have to take out the engine. Long term though, you might find that your 6volt starter doesnt like this set up very much? As mentioned, I ran my bug on a 12 volt conversion, just changing the necessa...

conversion

Hi there, I fully converted my 66 to 12volt. I ran it for ages with the 6 volt starter motor, flywheel etc, but i think the starter motor failed so decided to replace it with a 12 volt one and change the fly wheel..... it never lets me down, better lights and when driving in the dark with rain it is...

eeeeek!

Hi there! That's a bit scary...... glad you're not trying to drive it without brakes hee hee! My previous 1964 bug had to do an emergengy stop to avoid an accident. The breaks were fine straight after the incident, then slowly for about 10 miles the breaks began to get a bit "spongy". I fo...
