It was the catch inside the door, rather than the striker plate. The spring which keeps the catch shut had broken, and it wasn't a serviceable part, so I had to get a new unit. Despite being a Mar '66 european beetle, it needed the old style catch (upto '64 for US bugs!)

Thanks

Door catch repair / replacement

Hello all, The catch on my drivers door is broken, it looks like the internal spring/lever which pushes the triangular catch on the underside of the catch is broken - does anyone know if it is possible to repair it? It doesnt look like replacement catches are easily available from all the usual supp...

Windscreen washer restoration

I had my washer system switched to electric, and I am now thinking of reverting to the old pressurised bottle system. Which side of the car should I route the hose through, and how long is the piece of hose from the switch to the underside of the nozzle? Does anyone have a photo they could share pls?

Hi, I had the same dilemma and went for the half way option - looking at pics of where it should go, I decided that 1) it didn't look very symmetrical 2) the hole ideally should be slightly set in, like the light and wiper switches. So I decided to put it on the right hand side of the ashtray - wher...

Re: 66 Flasher Switch

I spent some time looking out for a flasher switch too - mine is a rhd uk spec, so didn't have one fitted as factory - just wondering what the best position for it would be. Any ideas? The 66 Flasher Switch (looks like a red bullet) is certainly becoming scarce. I bought a good piece in Oct 2007 fo...

Pedal rubbers

Now this feels like a daft question.... I'm having trouble fitting rubbers to my pedals - the genuine (but brasil) VW rubbers that I've bought have a lip all the way round, but there is no overhang on the bottom of the pedal to fit the lip to. So, have I got the wrong rubber? Can I cut the bottom li...

A road side fix was carried out and we made it back under our own steam, phew! Not sure I could have faced the embarrassment of being dropped off by a tow truck!
