Difficulty starting my '66 Bug

I only run my Bug once a month or even less, making it very difficult to start. Even using ether, it is difficult and requires a lot of time (and a lot of ether). I'm sure this is hard on the engine. Short of running it once a week or so, are there any tricks to getting it started? I put a new fuel ...

Thanks for the info! I know it's a remedial question, but I was afraid of pulling on the wrong thing and breaking the horn ring. I'll get on it this weekend.

Just wanted to follow up on an earlier post. Curious if someone can tell me how to get the horn part of the steering column off. I've got a horn that is not working and I want to see if it has to do with the contact points on the steering wheel. Thanks for any input!

How do you go about taking off the horn ring? I bought a new horn, and it won't work either. Not a fuse problem since the windshield wipers, etc works. B/4 I get into wiring, I'd like to check the contacts as you suggest. Is there an easy way to get the horn ring off?

Where is the horn actually at? Mine won't work either. I'm new to Bugs and see from the diagram the wiring goes down the steering column, but I can't see where the horn itself is in case I need to replace it. Tks for any insight you have.

My thanks to all of you for your input! I ended up replacing the fuel pump for $33 at Auto Zone. A breeze to put in and now she runs like new! Again, tks!

My thanks to both of you that passed on your ideas. I'm headed out on vacation for the next week, but will put your ideas to work when I get back. I'll let you know how things go upon my return. Thanks!

Is it my fuel pump?

I just got my grandma's '66 beetle about 6 months ago. The last time I started her was about 3 months ago, and now I can't get her started. While shooting a little starter fluid into the carb, she'll fire, but won't start. The minute you stop with the starter fluid, she just turns over, but won't fi...

My Grandma's Bug is now mine!

In 1966, my grandparents traded in their '56 Bug for a '66 Bug. My mom remembers holding her 6-wk old baby son (me) when grandma pulled up to our home in Sioux Falls, SD proud as she could be of her new Bug. Since then, my grandparents have passed away and the bug ended up with my parents. After 15 ...
