Alot of time I have found that is you heat it up the rubber a little and then bend the flaps open to slip it on that is a little easier

Well, you probably have the power input into the wrong pin, or the system isn't carrying enough power to full through the system, which means you have a bad wire somewhere

In my opinion, dump the twins, according to the book "how to hot rod your vw" it sounds like you've over carburated your engine, its probably killing gas mileage too. Thats my 2 cents

If your looking to recover the seats anyways and have a few minutes on your hands, check the wrecking yards and if your lucky to have a vw wrecking yard around there check them if the plain one doesn't have a set, you will have to search the yards, if they pull them it'll run you more, same with the...
