Re: ISO Advice on engine rebuild 1300 Sp Vs 1600, 1776

Mine is also mechanically original, engine is an F case and the numbers are in the ballpark for being the factory issue for the car. It was converted to 1600sp before my purchase; for me, a pleasant surprise. Since you asked, I'd advise, if your motor is proper for the car -an F case- and is healthy...

Re: Throttle Control and Air Filter Connection

I still feel lucky this car was as original as it was too. It's a curious mix here and there, but I reckon (generously perhaps) 98% OG. I'd have been fine with the 6v system and preferred it just for staying true to the year TBH and, no small consideration, time and money spent in the conversion. Bu...

Re: Throttle Control and Air Filter Connection

That's an excellent photo Jm. I have to give credit to this forum for the information about the two preheat locations possible on a '66 and why. So many puzzles, right? In my case, the 'Why' of my preheat hose location was the mystery. All other photos showed it to be as is in your photo, which made...

Re: Throttle Control and Air Filter Connection

This Samba thread, although on a slightly different topic, will show the two locations used on the '66. First is straight down to through the tin to another connection piece (you need this to do it correctly, not hard to find at a swap meet) that brings air up from the 3-4 cylinder side. The other i...

Re: nesbie; 1966 Bug

Very nice car; you're fortunate to find one in such apparently nice shape. I'm envious of your engine being a turn key good runner...and the interior looks to be more than satisfactory. Mine is in none of those conditions, but makes up for it in other ways. Isn't interesting the wide variety of cond...

Re: oil pressure relief valve

Thanks 1300; I knew someone here would know and your user name qualifies for sure. The motor is still on the bench and when installed I'll be better able to remove that stubborn relief valve plug and check it out. A PO installed 1600 P/C's and who knows what else. Java green is a great color and I'm...

oil pressure relief valve

Does the 1300 have the slotted O.P. relief valve or the solid type. I've read the 1300-1500 did till the dual reliefs came to be, but can't find a definitive answer. The car is a '66; by the numbers it could be the original.

Re: Oil bath air cleaner.

Hey, thanks H-moto; that gave me some info too. I figured my car was around a May production; now maybe June -116898414. The heat hose connects as you said; the old now replace with the proper black hose and new wire clips. And coincidentally the air cleaner is getting a refurbishing scrub today. Gl...

Thanks Seibert. The appearance was part of the decision to choose this one and the fact there wasn't a lot of pre-'67's to choose from locally (NW Oregon). It has many issues, but most are under the skin. I need to acknowledge the immense help and support I'm getting from this website; so many 1966 ...

Time to step up and say hello.

Purchased my '66 in Oct of '18. Pan and body #'s match as a spring or early summer production car (to be purposely vague). Motor #F 0823556 and possibly the factory issued motor; it seems to be in the ball park. The opinion of the more experienced is welcome as always. PO says it has a respray. He d...
