I have a late (February) 66, I bought it with round button paddle handles. I was lucky to get them to open. Bought after market square button paddle handles, they were just as bad. Clean up the flywheel teeth

Before you install a rebuilt starter, replace the bushing and clean up the flywheel teeth. Use a Dremel to shape the face of the teeth and a large file to dress the tops. The ring gear is softer than the Bendix gear, therefore, if you hear grinding the ring gear is loosing material.

My horn was not working when I bought my 66. The horn beeped when the negative terminal was grounded at the horn. The horn ring was not making contact with the steering tube. I converted a Blue '68 Beetle to electric 30 years ago, its been great, but I missed the fun of driving a time machine. Now I have the best of both machines, with my nice original '66.
