Removing old rubber seals
I'm getting ready to replace some of the rubber seals on my Bug. I'm starting with the front hood seal and rear decklid seal, followed by the door seals. Then, finally, I'll tackle the seals around the windows. Fortunately, the seals on the windshield and rear window look pretty good. I can find all...

Oregon Beetle...2nd owner
Hi, my '66 was purchased new in Oregon by my aunt. In '05 it came to me. Somewhere along the line, they had swapped motors (still the 1300), reupholstered it, and repainted the Ruby Red. It sat in my barn/shop for about 6 years and I just now got it going again and am having a ball running around in...

lead additive in gas
Just had some work done on thief bug and the mechanic, who has worked extensively on bugs, said NOT to add lead additive to the gas tank after fillup. Any comments on that? Thanks

Got the headlight assemblies all cleaned, repainted, and re-installed. I must say it looks pretty darned good...and much cheaper than buying new ones. I also got the bug running again (after 6 or 7 years of sitting in the shop). I had the gas tank cleaned and, when I tried to start it, no gas was ge...

Cleaning leatherette
I'm sure this has been covered multiple times, but the search engine on this site is whipping me!! My '66 has white leatherette upholstery It was reupholstered 20 or 30 years ago by my aunt (original owner) and it's looking a little dingy. I read somewhere that care must be taken when cleaning this ...

Replacement Headlight assemblies
I'm about to go crazy! The headlight assy's on my Bug were getting pretty rusty inside, so I decided to replace them. They were Hella units. First I ordered what they said were replacements for that year from Jbugs. There were several differences between the old and new. The headlight adjusting scre...

Hello from The Dalles, Oregon
Hi, just discovered this website and is it a sight for sore eyes. I have a 66 Bug that I got in 2003 from my aunt. She was the original owner and it came with a large file folder that contained all maintenance records, the sales brochure and even the salesman's business card!! We drove it for a few ...
