Re: reverse light installation.

Hi. Kindly assist me with the how-to installation of a reverse light. Thank you. I think there used to be some way of wiring this into the speedo somehow. Not sure if being an optimechanical speedo would make a difference with this sort of wiring setup. Back when I still had my 66, I had toyed arou...

Well finally got my 36 mm socket in and took the axle nut off and from what I can tell it looks in really good shape. So here is what I know now, when I spin the hub in neutral it feels like the transmission is trying to lock up at a certain point. It pretty much feels like it's trying to lock up. ...

Air cleaner rebuild?

I have a Knecht air cleaner that is one of the few 1966 engine parts still in my engine bay (except for right now.) After the fire, it has discolored a lot. I also noticed the flappy-do thing had melted out of existence during the engine fire. I've sanded down the air cleaner to the best of my abili...

I talked to some guy that Owns a VW shop and works on old beetles all the time and he said he's never heard of that happening. I had my boyfriend drive it and it stayed in 4th and would only pop out when he pushed on the gas. I will probably have to take it to a shop to get it fixed as I do not hav...

Re: Trans Issue??

I got my Beetle out of storage to drive it on the road for a bit. Fun. consider myself jealous for not having storage for mine, or for not being able to store it during harsh winters. My first time driving it on the main road. When I went to shift into 4th Also jealous, don't often get to shift min...

Re: 6v voltage regulators

I recently purchased my first VW in about 30 years. I bought a 1966 bug and it's still 6 volt. My voltage regulator was shot and i was lucky to find a NOS Bosch one on eBay. I found that it's pretty hard to find some of these old 6v parts. My question is, does anybody rebuild 6v voltage regulators....

Shellac them?

Clear fingernail polish them?

Clear coat paint them?

Around here, the potholes have been known to mangle rims a lot :-)

Re: South Eastern Indiana or Cincinnati??

I'm looking for a good repair shop near my home in South Eastern Indiana/Cincinnati area. Anyone know of any? There is quite a VW scene in Louisville, there may be one there. Also, don't know if you still have your bug yet or not, but I really thought your follow-up post was funny. In the end, if y...

Oh, I see what you need...

Not really that. They have little pits in them from rock chips and such. I suppose I could just leave it how it is since it since they aren't that horrible lol. A couple of quick things here: 1.) Try and find some reputable glass place that may be able to grind it down, ala watch repair. or 2.) By ...

Re: Headlamp Restoration

Anyone know how to restore glass headlamps and make them look nice? I was going to try Mother's Headlamp restorer but it says that stuff is for plastics and I wasn't sure if it would ruin my headlamps. I don't think it would ruin them. I just don't think it will work, if what you are talking about ...

You know,

I do have one to try. My stock rims are mostly rusty. These chrome replacement wide 5 slotted wheels have clips on them. Perhaps they are repro Porsche? Not sure how to tell, though I thought somebody put that information on the samba not too long ago. I guess I'll just have to try it and see. Kyle

Fit on the 66 stock rims? I'm talking about those hubcaps that stick out I think they are called smoothies.

U.S. Beetles

Had the pear shaped mirrors. I think they were called Hagus.

Good luck and happy hunting.

For the other guys out there-how do you go about finding a local chrome plating establishment? They seem to have become quite rare after the EPA's new regulations in 2012.

Re: Red carpet or floor mats

I too have the pearl weiss 66 VW with the red interior. For years I've tried to locate the original red floormat to replace my crumbling ones. They are lost to history at this point. Or not if you know a supplier? Around here, just finding normal beetle size floor mats can be an adventure. What I e...
