Re: He has way more patience than me...

I would've just bought brand new black, and zapped it with the correct paint style combo in an aerosol can. Carquest had the L87 for me. Kyle So ...Itskyle, how did the rattle-can fender bead paint work out? How is it holding up to the weather ....is it cracking? What do you mean by 'correct paint ...

Wheel paint

Can anyone suggest a 'rattle can' near match for the L-289 Blue White paint on the '66 wheels? And, is the center black a 'gloss black' or is it semi-gloss?

As far as I have been able to determine, no one makes / supplies the upper door hinges for a pre-68 beetle. Some suppliers ( Cip1.co and Wolfsberg West) supply the hinge screw plates for early beetles, and the complete hinges for 68 and new beetles. Not sure if those parts can be modified to work wi...

Looks like you have your work cut out for you!! Congrats on taking on the challenge! I'm working on a 66 as well, but I note that your's is more like the pre-65 Beetles sold in North America. Did they ever 'upgrade' to the post-1965 body style down under (larger rear quarter windows, rear window, sl...

I have recently had four 1966 beetles in my possession (and still have 2)..but none of them had round-button door handles. However, it is my understanding that the inner mechanism of the round-button handle itself, and the door mechanism that it inter-faces with, are the same for both types of handl...

The engine number and the chassis number will not be 'the same'. According to the extensive database on www.thesamba.com, the chassis number is from Aug 1965, and the engine number is from March, 1966. This could mean that the engine was replaced under warranty (just a guess) ...or perhaps a previou...

You can buy the thermostat parts from Cip1.com and other parts suppliers ..some of the parts you might have get from a used parts supplier. As the "heater boxes" are technically similar to modern day air-to-air heat exchangers, you have to ensure that hot exhaust fumes are not mixing with the fresh air being drawn in to cool the engine ...that same air is forced into the passenger compartment to heat it. The most important thi...

I think I've answered my own question. I found this photo of the interior of a 1967 VW bug on another forum. So ...I guess I was wrong about the mirror as well ....look like the 'longer side' goes toward the passenger, not the driver.

Sunvisors ...which goes where

With the asymmetrical sunvisors on the 66 bug (as well as the 65 and 67 models) which one goes on the driver's side ...they slanty shaped one, or the more fuller shaped one? My guess was that the slanty shaped one went on the driver's side, because that's how it was on my project bug. But, I notice ...

This is what Wikipedia says, in part, about VW Beetle production in Brazil: Brazilian assembly of the Beetle, where it is called "Fusca", started in 1953, with parts imported from Germany. By January 1959 the cars were built in the new São Bernardo do Campo plant, although they originally...
