Starter motor 'disengaging ' too quickly.
I have a '66 Bug w/1300 motor, converted to 12V by PO, runs fine, but starting can be a problem. When I turn the key, the starter engages with the flywheel for only about 1/8 of a second, turning the engine over maybe one revolution, before it disengages from the flywheel & spins freely. This is...

Quality parts supplier
I've ordered parts from a number of suppliers recently - I got my Bug 3 months ago - and have found good and bad. I'm not gonna mention the bad, but there are some good ones, here's a few I've dealt with. California Import Parts (www.cip1.com) have a huge inventory, and are very helpful on the phone...

Beware Mike's Beach Bugs, Virginia Beach, VA
Ordered some parts from this website via Paypal, the payment was made to him, I have had no response about the order. No confirmation, nothing. Left 3 messages on his phone, emailed him twice for an update, have heard nothing at all. The 'business' address is a house in the middle of a suburban neig...

Oil hose nipple just under filler cap - where does it go?
So I'm looking around my new (to me) 1966 Beetle and there's a fitting on the underside of the oil filler neck, just under the cap, that looks like a hose should be on it. I'm replacing it, of course, but where does the other end of the hose go? Somewhere on the crank case?

Seat belt parts
Just bought a '66 Beetle and after I got him home I started finding that the PO had 'lost' a few parts here & there, namely the throttle return spring bracket, the mixture screw and parts of the seat belts. I found a carb screw and made a bracket, but I need the belt parts. It's the part that at...

Hi - about to buy a restored 1966.
Looking at a restored 1966 Beetle this weekend, have looked at car before but owner wasn't ready to sell. Now it's in an estate sale. Probably going to need some tips from this site - any 47 y/o car is bound to have a kink or two!
