Thanks Herc.

These ones were sold before I had a chance to jump on them though. Thanks for the heads up, and I will keep an eye on the Samba.

seats for a 66

I was fortunate today to score a set of the correct seats for my 66. When I bought the car, it came with the early style seats without the latches. These seats need to be completely media blasted and some spring welding, but they are intact for the most part. I was so excited at finding these seats ...

distributor drive may be backward

One common mistake many individuals make when rebuilding an engine is to put the distributor drive in backward. The notches in the drive are offset, and have to be placed in the right position. Often time the person installing the distributor drive will install it prior to ensuring the engine is at ...

Best places to purchase oem quality body parts

Can anybody direct me to the best places to buy good quality body parts? I have checked out CIP1, and I am curious about the quality of their parts. Many times these parts are made in either China, Mexico or Brazil, and the quality of these parts is somewhat shady. I would like to purchase German qu...

Grinding into 2nd gear

I am having an issue with my bug wanting to grind into 2nd gear. I have replaced the shifter coupling, and shift rod bushing. I tried to install a stock shifter which did not go well at all. I could find 3rd and 4th, but 1st and 2nd were impossible. I put the Scat shifter back in, and it shifts perf...

Interesting. I've never heard of a Pertronix doing that. I actually changed to the Pertronix because I got tired of replacing points. Not to mention I had a set of points burn up on I-84 in Idaho, half way between Mountain Home and Boise.

If you are looking to simply replace your points, I would recommend the Pertronix Ignitor. This will work well with the Bosch 009 distributor, but I'm not sure if it will work in the stock vacuum advance distributor. The Pertronix is just as easy to install as a set of points but you will no longer ...

Thank you for the feedback. I was finally able to get the rod back in the car, but it was quite a challenge. I didn't realize how many tubes and lines there are in there for the rod to hang up on. It took several attempts and a lot of swearing on my part, but I eventually got it in. The shifter that...

shift rod

I have a problem with my shift rod on my 66. When I bought the car it had a Scat trigger shifter in it, which I decided to replace with an original shifter. I could not get the shifter to work right. It didn't seem to want to engage all the gears, and reverse was completely absent. After playing wit...

I forgot to mention

I guess I forgot to mention that I just purchased a 66 bug that is need of some major help. I only gave $900 for an intact specimen, but the years have taken their toll, as have some hacks that seemed to think they were doing something right by slathering bondo in all the wrong places. I have my wor...

always wanted a 66

I never thought I would find a forum dedicated to the 1966 Bug. I have owned many VW's both air and water cooled, but this is the first 66 I have owned. I have owned a 57 ragtop, a 65, 67, 71, 73, 74, and a 76 bug, not all at one time. In addition to those, I have also owned a 69 Bus, a 70 Westy, a ...
